Welcome to the website of the Surinam Police Force.

With this website, our Force strives to create a closer connection to the public and in doing so to enhance the quality of our task and contact with society. We believe that the interaction between police and society will spread, improve and gain meaning through this site.

The Surinam Police Force is in a reorganisation process, our target being the following core values:

  • Protection of the constitutional state
  • Integrity and ethics
  • Customer service
  • Professional labour organisation

The Constitutional Organ Surinam Police Force

The position of the Surinam Police Force is laid down in Article 179 of the Constitution of the Republic of Surinam. The task of the Surinam Police Force as Constitutional Organ of the Republic of Surinam is described in article 5 and article 6 of the Police Charter (Government Journal 1971, No.70) containing the rules of the police in Surinam.

The Mission of the Surinam Police Force

A police force which is honourable, effective and efficient and which gives meaning to our task of serving the community of the territory of the Republic of Surinam in an innovative way.

The vision of the Surinam Police Force

The organization is being developed along the contours of innovative conception of its task, support, necessary formation of personnel, location and service. Decentralisation is one of our goals. Human Resource Management enhances individual competence and quality of the personnel in particular and the force in general.

Special areas of policy

The force wants to dedicate special attention to the young of our community. Prevention, assistance and information are seen as instrumental to prevent criminal behaviour, next to enforcement of the law.

Trading in humans is a world-wide problem which is being fought internationally. By signing the international treaties, Surinam has joined those countries which flight the trade and exploitation of human beings.

Traffic and the implementation of traffic rules are taken up energetically by purchasing new material and vehicles, as well as training and coaching our traffic specialists. The growth of traffic intensity justifies special police care and attention.

Organized crime which surpasses local boundaries has lead to intensive collaboration with fellow police forces inside and outside our country. The national and international trade in drugs and weapons justify and require special police attention.

The website of the Surinam Police Force does not presume to be complete. The construction of this site is an on-going process, following developments in society.

I do however warmly and proudly recommend you to visit our site. Each visitor is invited to respond and react with constructive criticism and/or questions!

On behalf of the SPF I wish you much reading pleasure!

The Chief Commissioner,

D.W.D. Braam
